An up-date on progress on our tow-car insurance.
I’ve visited the usual suspects on-line, and been quoted some outrageous sums by a few who are obviously primarily in the entertainment business, and an almost acceptable quote by one; almost but not quite. There is lots of fly-by-night stuff around that have what I can only call interesting terms in their small print that surely must border on scamming for the unwary or desperate.
However one company among the multitudinous dross caught my eye:
I now recollect reading about this, then new outfit a while back, and it seemed like an interesting twist. It is vehicle insurance aimed at the low milage driver, of which I am one, as last year we only covered a little over 4000 miles.
The idea is simple enough, an annual upfront charge is made that covers your car whilst it is happily rotting on your driveway. To this is added a charge for each mile driven. The theory being that most of the risk occurs when the wheels are turning, which seems resonable!
The mileage covered is recorded by an on-board digi-box and the monthly total conveyed to the insurance company by some sort of black magic so that they can then charge my credit card appropriately.
Something else that I’m not averse to is that the premium pain being spread over a year.
The insurance is arranged and underwritten by AXA Insurance who are Defaqto 5 star rated, which is good to know.
So, the plunge has been taken and I’ve paid the initial premium and I now await the arrival of the digi-box which I’m assured is, even now, winging it’s way to me.
I am equally assured that said digi-box will be easy for me to fit; I do so admire their faith in my digi-box fitting ability!
