Due an to unexpectedly good weather forecast a few days prior to the late Easter holiday week, our stay-at-home holiday plan was cancelled, and I was assigned the task of finding a caravan pitch for the Easter weekend. I had earlier seen a reference to this CMC CL site on a Facebook forum that seemed to suggest that it might fit our requirements for a quiet adult only basic site reasonably close to our storage site. I say basic because we have a very nice toilet and shower unit at the back of our caravan, so I see no reason to pay someone else to duplicate that facility for us.

On telephoning Mrs Palmer, and given the weather forecast of tropical sunshine and Mediterranean temperatures, coupled to the short notice I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they had a pitch available as I thought all sites would be booked solid.

The driving directions provided, coupled to the fact that they seem to have their own personal post code for our SatNav meant that our journey was uneventful, just the way we like it. The final mile to the site is initially along a residential road and later along country lane but it’s an open landscape so visibly is good although the final right turn onto their approach road is concealed by a hedge until the very last moment. However it’s a lightly used road and we didn’t have any problems during out stay.

The site is mown grass gently sloping from the entrance gateway, but not to a degree that will present anyone with any difficulties. The grassed area available was large enough for me to easily perform a U turn, even with our long rig, and then a straight reverse onto one of the numbered, and very well spaced pitches. No crowding on this site.

The water and disposal points are located by the gate. Grey water disposal is to the surrounding hedgerow.

Both television and mobile network signals were strong.

There is a long lawned dog walk off to one side of the site that our mutt appreciated, even though he had to be kept on a lead as per site rules.

The village of Donington is about a mile away, its has a well stocked Co-op as well as an interesting collection of small shops, and not one but two fish and chip shops.

In summary. Gralyn Barn CL is a large, well maintained, quiet and spacious five van site that epitomises the CL network philosophy and which we thought, at £11 per night, represents excellent value. We shall return!
