Wighill Manor is a Camping & Caravan Club CS site that is located a few miles north of Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, convenient for anyone travelling the A1M and wanting a stop-over for a day or two.
The approach from the A1 was easy and the site equally easy to find. However finding the poorly signed reception took a couple of minutes door knocking before locating the correct room and receiving a warm welcome and introduction to the site facilities from Mrs Redfern.
The site is part of a working farm and although very quiet overnight was subject to machinery noise during the day, hedge clipping was in progress during part of our stay.
This is a basic five van CL site without toilet or washing facilities.
There are eight pitches to chose from situated along two edges of a large well drained field. Pitches one to three face north, back on to a large farm building and are level. Pitch four faces in the same direction but is clear of the building. Pitches five to eight face west in the lee of a hedge and slope to the extent that steady blocks and a wheel wedge may be required.
There is a single water tap by the entrance to the field, between pitches four and five.
The toilet emptying point is an unwelcome 250m away on the other side of the farm to our pitch. This was the one bad feature of the site for it’s not an easy walk with a full container.
The pitch area was mown and free of cuttings but the rest of the field consisted of rough grass.
It’s advisable to follow the site rule of keeping dogs on leads as I saw a badger trap just behind the water tap area which could also interest a small dog.
Overall I fell that the site fee of £12 per night inclusive of an EHU to be reasonable. For those that wish to go off-grid the fee is £10.
