I spent yesterday carrying out a bit of a tidy and spring clean to get our van ready for this years touring following it’s winter lay-up. Apart from a little black mould inside the ‘fridge ice-box cover it seems to be in good order. I know I was supposed to leave it wedged open to stop mould forming, but forgot!
I also managed to complete the installation of the external data aerial and internal WiFi router.
On the plus side our solar panel has done its job of keeping our battery fully charged, so I was able to have both radio and the central heating system on to warm the van up while I worked. The ambient temperature is still too low for comfort as far as I’m concerned; even when doing house work.
Our mobile service engineer is due to carryout an annual service on site next week together with a check on the central heating fluid as I’ve no idea when it was last changed, if ever.
I’m also considering having the Alko spare wheel carrier removed and then carrying the spare wheel in one of the under-bed lockers. My reasoning is that I doubt that I can access the wheel on the carrier, especially if close to a curb, so may just as well get rid of it and save some weight. Actually, being realistic I doubt that I have the strength to change a wheel any longer, certainly the desire to do so is totally absent.
My next task is to sort out the mountain of seemingly essential junk that will need transferring out of our garage and spare bedroom and back to the van ready for our trip. I’m considering leaving the Kampa blow-up awning in storage and just relying on the Fiamma roll-out awning to see how we get on with just that, although its obviously not as weather proof as the Kampa. We do have a side screen for it to protect the doorway from rain. The Kampa awning isn’t difficult to erect, but crawling around pegging its base drives me insane; and my knees dislike the job intensely.
We are planning on a few days on the Sandringham C&CC site around the middle of the month in order to sort ourselves out and plan some serious touring to we don’t know where yet. My wife also has to test and pass judgment on the comfort level of her new throne, there could be more work needed on that.
