The door of one of the cupboards over the sink sometimes comes open when the ‘van is being towed. It’s probably due to my inability to miss all the many potholes and the terrible state of our roads generally, but whatever the reason it is annoying, so deserved investigation. The cause was quickly traced to a broken roller catch that was failing to hold the door as tightly shut as it should.
Whilst looking at this problem I managed to convince myself that the cupboard door hinges must also be worn, so I determined that these should be replaced too.
My enthusiasm was considerably dampened when I found replacements advertised on-line at discouraging prices of several pound each. However further research let me to a trade supplier called LocksOnline.com whose prices proved to be much more realistic and therefore acceptable.
I reasoned that if one catch or hinge was faulty, then they probably all were, so purchased enough hinges for the three doors and enough catches for the whole van. I thought the total cost of £17 including post and packing was reasonable, and the delivery was certainly prompt.
Apart from replacing the single faulty catch; attending to the others can wait and form one of those rainy day on tour non-urgent jobs.
